I have been loath to admit that this day was coming, dear friends, but really, I’ve known since September that the day would come.  Bakerina Kitchens is dead.  Long live Bakerina Kitchens.

Of course, I may be overstating the case.  Bakerina Kitchens isn’t exactly dead.  But it does need to hibernate, at least until such time as I can treat it like a proper business.  As little cottage industries go, it was delightful:  I was lucky enough to be able to buy beautiful fruit every weekend, cook it down with sugar in a giant copper pot, decant it into shiny glass jars and send it out to people who wanted something special to put on their sandwiches and toast.  In the end, though, I had to face facts:  my costs are 55% of my sell price, and even before I hatched this demented plan to go to law school, my time and energy were becoming more and more circumscribed by the demands of LuthorCorp.  It is simply not fair of me to keep an active site for an inactive business, or to offer something I cannot deliver.

Fortunately, this is not an irrevocable decision.  While I’m betting that I won’t have a lot of free time for home businessing once school starts, I’m hoping that the day will come when I will have that time, and when it does, I will still have that beautiful template, created for me by my dear friend, administrator and overall keeper of the key Keith.  (Have I mentioned lately that Keith is my hero?) In the meantime, I do want to thank everybody who was kind enough to support me, whether by buying my jam, by offering feedback and advice and helpful commentary, by spreading the word to friends and family, or just by being here, being your fine and splendid selves.  Thank you, everyone.

If I sound more than a little sad tonight, fear not:  There is some sadness here, but most of my low demeanor is brought on by fatigue, which, in turn, is brought on by the aforementioned demands of LuthorCorp.  It’s 2007 and good things are afoot.  They may not be jam-based good things, but they are afoot nonetheless.  smile

That is truly tragic. I kept stopping in occasionally to see if any new products were available. Now I’m devastated. (But I will be undevastated as soon as Bakerina Kitchens is revived.)

I understand completely, and I’m glad I got to sample some of your delicious wares before they became [temporarily, I hope] unobtainable by mere mortals. It sucks to have to have priorities, sometimes. wink

Ah BK, we hardly knew ye.

Sadly, I never enjoyed the “fruits” of your labor.  I rest assured, however, that when all of the puzzle pieces of your life fall into their proper places, your passion will win out and you will be once again happily sweating over the copper kettle.  When that day comes, I will be your first customer!

Hey, no fair! I want to be her first customer.

No, pick me!  Pick me to be your first customer when BK comes back!

(And in all seriousness, good luck with all the afootedness. smile)

Hero?  How in the world can I live up to those words?  I’ll need a plan.  Maybe I’ll start by dropping off my tights at the dry cleaners.  And get my cape back from my brother.  I think he used it at Christmas as a tablecloth.
