Whatever I have, dear friends, it's not a virus, but it might as well be. It could be a result of three straight days of rain, insufficient vitamins or a mind full of worry. Either way, it has left me with aching sinuses, muscle pain from my ankles to the small of my back, joint pain in my elbows, and an unfortunate burst of rotten attitude when Lloyd told me that he had forgotten to pick up a New York Times today ("but it's WEDNESDAY! Yeah, I know that all I do is bitch about how boring the food section is, but...it's WEDNESDAY!"
.
It is time for to bring out the big guns. Chicken and ginger wontons in dark chicken stock. Apples baked with maple syrup. Pears baked with butter and moscato d'asti. Fruity red tea to put me to sleep, strong black coffee to wake me up. Morphine on the stereo. At Home With the Braithwaites on order from Netflix. A picture of my favorite building in the U.S.A., so designated not only because it's a beautiful building in a beautiful town in a beautiful state, but also because I can't help but love a building that advertises its own greatness. (Note to Self: Lay in a supply of Basin Water, to see if it cures 90 percent of what ails me.) Beautiful and goodhearted friends. Time, time, time, see what becomes of me.

Aw darlin, I’m feeling the pain. Girlie, thy name is misery and you look in definite need of company ... may I join you? I’m sick too. My man-child has been sick (pesky cold) for a couple of weeks and was kind enough to finally share it with me.
On a slightly bright note, I learned over the weekend that I AM actually capable of making Most Excellent slow cooker chicken soup (all ingredients organic, and yes I’ll take the bonus points, thankyew).
Now, sit here in front of me and I’ll give you the rubdown to beat ‘em all. Put your hair up in a scrunchie so I don’t pull it and hand me the oil.
See you are feeling so poorly, you didn’t even realize that as of Wednesday (your post date) it was FIVE straight days, and today (Thursday) marks SIX straight days of rain (with more to come).
So sorry you are not feeling well.
My cureall for when I feel lousy. Nyquil!!! The nasty tasting Blue one! Better known as the coughing, weezing, sneezing, did I really sleep through the last two days medicine.
Jen-Did the Wu Liang Ye snackies do nothing for you? and incidentally you better serve me those ginger and chicken wontons next time I am the film critic in residence at Chez bakerina. 9I’m just making the point you think YOU’RE demanding, you don’t even have a clue.)
Just think tomorrow you shall be getting a decadent hand massage at lush and then you can go home and play with all your new products and splash around in a decadent bath and get out feeling like the goddess I know you are and if that doesn’s do it have some of those pumpkin/chocolate filled peeps-it works for me!
I know that feeling. It’s the one I define as “Gee, I think I’d rather be dead.” I get it after about 3 days of taking commercial vitamins. I’m allergic to something in them (I’m told it’s likely the syntheticly-produced B’s).
I find that lots of good fruit juice, a banana, protein and developing a plan for the future on which I can begin taking babysteps beats the mental and physical pain into submission. Sometimes.
Other times the blue bottle of gin and letting misery take its course is the only way to go.
I’ve been having a bit of the malaise myself. Chicken and ginger wontons sound like just the thing. A recipe is forthcoming, right? Because you can’t taunt me that way and expect to get away with it.
When faced with similar feelings, my solution (at least this time of year) always involves lamb shanks.

so beautiful, it raises my heart- that picture. but not you being sick, no. and in the true heart and spirit of the woman that everyone loves you spread beauty instead of misery. bravo!
I live not too far from Eureka, and have spent many enjoyable weekends there. I love the pictures that you post. Hopefully, in the near future, you’ll buy that building and I can buy cherry pies from you.
