Since it has been a long time since we've seen a meme around here, I am hereby picking up the baton passed to me by the lovely Moira. Please be sure to stop by Moira's site and see her beautiful contribution to today's Sugar High Friday. We should all be so lucky to get a valentine like that.
What is the total amount of music files on your computer?
Well, it depends on which computer. I have about 300 songs on my laptop. On our home desktop, we have an entire hard drive dedicated to our music. Lest you think that we are raving pirates, all of our music files are ripped copies of CD's we have already bought. Nothing to see here! (nervous laughter)
The CD you last bought?
I just bought a used copy of Oh-OK: The Complete Recordings from a guy who sold it on half.com. The last cd I bought new was Welcome to the Monkeyhouse by the Dandy Warhols, the day after I saw Dig!, the documentary about the Dandies and the Brian Jonestown Massacre.
What is the song you last listed to before reading this message?
"So. Central Rain" by R.E.M., from the Reckoning album.
Write down 5 songs you often listen to or that mean a lot to you.
You mean I can't list 50? Oh, all right. How about 10?
The Magnetic Fields, "The Night You Can't Remember"
Too Much Joy, "Drum Machine"
Muddy Waters, "I Just Can't Be Satisfied"
Dwight Twilley, "Somebody to Love"
R.E.M., "Perfect Circle"
Violent Femmes, "Never Tell"
Raymond Scott Quintette, "Powerhouse"
The Clash, "Death or Glory"
The Jam, "Going Underground"
Seat Belts, "Tank!"
Who are you going to pass this stick to (3 persons) and why?
Moira will probably smack my hand for this, but I'm not going to pass the stick. I'm going to leave it here on the table and invite anyone who wants to to pick it up. Maybe if you think of it less as a stick and more as a freshly-baked pie...everybody likes freshly-baked pie.

Oy. Like Bakerina, this one’s a bit tough. A good 1200-1500 albums on the hard drive. All copied from my own collection or my brother’s (who lived at my home awhile and who I always call first to make sure that he’s not playing his original at the same time I play my copy, of course).
Last bought: Diana Krall “Girl in the Other Room”
Last song: Cream “Sunshine of Your Love”
Important: Talking Heads “Road to Nowhere,” Johnny Cash “Ring of Fire,” Diana Krall “Frim Fram Sauce,” Janis Joplin “Mercedes Benz” and hell, everything on the Big Chill Soundtrack.
Darn it. Can’t we make it 50? There are too many that are left off a short list and no way to justify the ones chosen.
Always playing by the letter of the law, ‘mouse?
OK, Bakerina, I’ll have some pie! Mmmm… Shakerina pie! I think this will be only the second meme at my place… and you’ll get to see just how odd my tastes really are.
oh-ok!!! ah, the magical world of linda limner. perhaps we are the only people with the complete collection of hetch hetchy?
i love the seat belts, i adore “tank” and use it in every cd compilation possible; i just wish i loved “cowboy bebop”....
my second favourite moment in an r.e.m. concert (the first being the opening bars of “begin the begin") is when everything slows down--including the universe--and buck breaks out that mandolin and stipe stands perfectly.still. for “perfect circle”....
damn fine list, bakerina!
Even though I always feel as if I’m intruding here
(it’s just me, nothing anyone ever says or does)… I thought I’d try to answer these too. I like reading people’s answers to all sorts of quizzes like this because it says so much about people, you know? You can glean things about them as people, stuff that they might not actually come out and tell you. Or on the other hand, you can figure that people are just plain crazy. Which usually works fine for me
Music Files on Computer: Dunno. Since the last time I had it crash, I’m not sure just what’s on here. Haven’t had the time to regroup. Spent too much time making sure I had all my novel, stories, poems, class notes
CD last bought: The Soundtrack from “Hotel Rwanda”...powerful music.
Song last listened to: Eagles “Desperado”. Yeah, old, but great. But I had to pull it out because that’s what we’re doing in the next “faculty talent show.” ... run for the hills, really~
Songs with meaning or listen a lot: (1) Alainis Morisette, “You Oughta Know”. She just comes out so raw and painful and I think that song resonated with a lot of people, men AND women. (2) Seal, “Love’s Divine”. The man is a god. Now if someone could only pry Heidi Klum away from him… (3) Bob Marley, “Redemption Song”. One of the finest lyrics of all time: “Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds.” (4) Leonard Cohen, “If It Be Your Will.” Sometimes things are just beyond us, ya know? (5) Santana, “Smooth”. I just like how it makes me feel. It’s one of those you can sing along to and it just sounds like you know what you’re doing. For me, anyway.
Hope all is well with everyone. I’m going to attempt to make Dal today~
No hand slapping from me, Ms. Bakerina! I’m actually bitter than I didn’t think of doing the same thing first, you smart cookie, you. But then I wouldn’t have been able to read about your interesting music choices, including one of my favourite bands of all time...Violent Femmes.
Many thanks, Bakerina! I’d seen this going around and was itchin’ for someone to send it my way. Just posted my responses a moment ago…
She cooks and has a good taste in music. Sigh.
Oh bakerina, the things I could write!
The last I listened to was “The Things that i used to do” sungby Stevie Ray Vaughn on the “Couldn’t Stand the Weather” album.
Last CD I bought? “Martin Scorcese presents the Blues”
Last CD I got was “Duets” with Ray Charles (It was a gift.)
Lately the last 5 songs have got to be:
“I’m so Glad” sung by the Yardbirds
“Sorry seems to be the Hardest word” Ray Charles and Elton John.
“Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)” by SRV or Jimi.
“Rockin Daddy” by Howlin Wolf
“I’d rather go blind” by Etta James.
Yeah I’m stuck in a genre, but I’m happy.
