Dear C., I find this story beyond cool. Mrs. Crenshaw sounds like a real peach. 
I bought my first Marshall Crenshaw album—which also happened to be *the* first Marshall Crenshaw album—when I was 14. I only just replaced it on CD last year. I still can’t listen to “Cynical Girl” without getting all shivery.

When I was in junior high school, my homeroom teacher was Mrs. Crenshaw, mother of Marshall who--besides writing that great song “You’re My Favorite Waste of Time"--played Buddy Holly in ‘La Bamba’. She was so proud of her son without being braggy, it was charming. I remember thinking, God, he’s never going to make it if he doesn’t change his name.
