...which means it’s time for another cheesy Bakerina headshot:

woman on the verge

Once again, my heart is full to bursting with love, happiness, adoration and thankfulness for each and every one of you.  In a just universe, I would be singing your praises in War and Peace-sized tomes, but since I’m still finding my way back to the Actual Control of Words, I will let Dan Wilson do the heavy lifting for me.  If you are familiar with this song, feel free to sing it 30 seconds after midnight, wherever you are.  (The first 30 seconds are for “Auld Lang Syne,” natch.) If you are not familiar with this song, do yourself a favor and seek it out.  You might like it, you might not, but if you do, it will break your heart wide open.  (Thank you, dearest J.P., for bringing it to me.)

Happy 2008, dear friends.  I can’t put it any better than that.

What a year for a new year
We need it like we needed life I guess
Last one left us lying in a mess
What a year for a new year

What a night for a sunrise
And we thought the dark would never end
Reaching out to try to find a friend
What a night for a sunrise
Sunrise

What a day for new day
And our star shines like a miracle
And our world is almost beautiful again
What a day for a new day
New day
New day

What a year for a new year
What a year for a new year
What a year for a new year

What a night for a sunrise
And we thought the dark would never end
Reaching out to try to find a friend
What a night for a sunrise
Sunrise

Soon we’ll be lying in our beds
And new dreams will fill our heads
And the old ones will be ended
Hope we’ll forget about this place
Let it go without a trace
Wipe the teardrops from our face

What a year for a new year
What a year, what a year for a new year
What a year for a new year

I’m not much of a believer in celebrating this holiday, as its timing is so arbitrary, but I’ll wish you a happy new year all the same, because I have a feeling that this is the year in which you will amaze yourself. And don’t let anybody tell you that 40 is the new 30 or the new 20 or anything else other than 40, and a damn fine time to blossom.

I wish you a happy new year, a time to start anew refreshed and optimistic again.

You make life better, my friend, you make the life, it doesn’t make you.  08 has to be better than 07.  It just has to.

Every new year I tune in thinking, “This will be the year that Bakerina finally comes through on her promise to show us her boobies,” and every year you disappoint me and thousands of other loyal readers.

Maybe at Mardi Gras?  I’ll throw beads.

Though, I have been an awful comment person in 2007, I am resolving to fix that in 2008.  So, although late, Happy New Year!
