Oh, I would have loved to have heard that Cocteau Twins contest. When I upgraded my copy of Treasure from vinyl to CD, I had high hopes of finally deciphering, if not all the lyrics, at least *something*. I have since decided that Elisabeth sings in a language that only she speaks. Which, is fine, really, because the music is so pretty, and so is she.
As far as old R.E.M. goes, if I could decipher one line per song, that was a pretty good day for me. I still think that the last line of each verse of “Sitting Still” is “We will gather, throw up beer.”
Collena’s right. The picture is a little over from 34. About 34.5 in fact. Which we all know is 1/2 of 69. (Sheesh.) Kids nowadays. Why do we have to spell everything out for them.
Bakerina must be feelin’ lonely. Lloyd, get to work.

Very astute of the lovely Kimberly! The lyric comes from “South Central Rain” by R.E.M, from the 1985 album Reckoning, which was a fixture on my stereo in college. (It’s the song that starts “Did you never call, I waited for your call...") And yes, this is another picture from Eureka Springs. It’s actually a general store, or was. The building was built in 1880 and sits at the top of Singleton Street. Every time I walked by it I thought “what a great space for a bakery!” but alas, even though it is no longer a store, somebody has plans for it, because it is covered with “Private Property” signs. Dagnabbit.
